No, it's not red - it's green

Okay, just about everyone has a red laser pointer. Heck, we even sell a fine one here at Todo100.com. But, we're pretty sure you want to be a superior geek - and doing it with a green laser is the way to go.

This pointer is significantly brighter (about 50 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. I mean come on, a 532 nm green laser wavelength is obviously superior to a laughable 650 nm red laser wavelength. And unlike a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid-air in dark conditions, not just the laser beam dot. This allows the green laser pointer to be used for pointing to star constellations (skypointing) and also just generally look cool as hell. The green laser beam dot can be seen at much greater distances than with a red laser pointer.

Since green direct injection laser diodes aren't readily available, this pointer is based on the use of Diode Pumped Solid State Frequency Doubled (DPSSFD) laser technology. A high power IR laser diode at 808 nm pumps a tiny block of Nd:YVO4 generating light at 1,064 nm which feeds a KTP intracavity frequency doubler crystal to produce the green beam at 532 nm.

Laser Pointers

532 nm green laser pointers are made using DPSS technology. The standard range is normally available with powers of 1 mW ~ 130 mW. These green laser pointers have a long beam range, high brightness, high beam quality and a low price.

The red laser pointers are made using a laser diode at either 635 nm or 650 nm and have an output power of 1 mW ~ 40 mW. They are available with a choice of two designs, either as just a laser pointer or as a multifunction instrument combining three functions: ball pen, laser pointer and ferule. Red laser pointers are also very low cost. They are pen size and yet powerful enough for business presentations in a large auditorium.

The standard range of laser pointers can be ordered online using our secure online ordering system. What is a Laser Pointer - Que es un Puntero Laser

A laser pointer is the most commonly used means of highlighting points of interest. It does this by projecting a point of light during a presentation. Most laser pointers have low enough power that the projected beam presents a minimal hazard to eyes for incidental exposure. The laser beam is not in itself visible from the side, but is visible as a result of light scattered by dust particles along the beam path. The small width of the beam and low power of typical laser pointers makes the beam itself invisible in a reasonably clean atmosphere, showing a point of light when striking an opaque surface. Some higher powered laser pointers are faintly visible via Rayleigh scattering when viewed from the side in moderately to dimly lit conditions.

High Powered Green Lasers

For those of you not familiar with high powered green lasers, they will blow your mind. While these pens range from 10mw-150mw. This is the 100mw version and it can pop balloons nearly instantly, and smoke items such as electrical tape, cut black plastic bags, etc. It also projects an intensely visible beam in dusk-dark conditions which makes this laser excellent for astronomy!

These green lasers appear hundreds of times more powerful than your normal over-the-counter red laser pointer. For those of you who are more familiar with high powered lasers and green lasers, you will still be impressed. The laser is very inexpensive for the quality and power output it features.

It is very important to note, that due to this lasers high power output, they are also consequently very dangerous if misused. Please keep in mind these are not laser �pointers� but rather tools to be used in astronomy, science demonstrations, measuring rough terrain, etc. Please keep lasers safe, do not point any laser of any power at airplanes, helicopters, cars, or any place where people may be exposed to the beam! The low-end green laser pointers start at about $50 and can go up to several hundred dollars for a more high powered one.

AppliedLaser.com offers both red and green laser pointers. The Infiniter 1000 Green Laser runs $169 and features a 532nm green laser with a range of over 1000 yards. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, this is a class IIIa laser with less than 5mw of power. Their basic green laser model runs $89. Both are about the size of a pen. Their red laser pointers range from $40-$70. They also sell laser sights for guns. OnPoint Lasers also sells both the red and green laser pointers. Their green pointer costs $19.99 and has a 10,000 foot range, also 532nm and powered by 2 AAA batteries. Their red laser pointers go for $39 for one, but they also have wholesale prices for customers buying more than 25. Website. Even Discovery channel's Discovery.com offers laser pointers, from the familiar keychain bullet-shaped red lasers, to $99 green beam laser pointer pens. Instapark.com offer a lot of inexpensive key chain models, costing only $4-$10. Parents might be tempted to give these low-powered units for children to use, but again, lasers are not toys and should not be used without adult supervision.
